Cathy Cassidy is one of my all time favourite childrens author, I was obsessed with her books as a child. The chocolate box girls series have to be my favourite! Although if I had to choose out of them I would choose Summers Dream. Cathy's first book was published in 2004 and it was named Dizzy. I have read this book when I was 9 or 10 years old and I loved it! I haven't actually read all of Cathy's books but I'm sure they are just as amazing as the ones I have read.
So when my sister noticed she was coming to Dun Laoighre we really wanted to go but when we noticed the tickets were only 5 euro we knew we had to go. So we packed up our top 7 faves and off we went.
Cathy's talk was held in the Pavilion Theatre as part of the Mountains To Sea DLR Book Festival. Cathy was introduced by Judi Curtin which was really lovely. When Cathy first came out I must admit I got overwhelmed and nearly started crying! Cathy was first chatting about her new book Fortune Cookie and talking about her childhood and about realising she wanted to become a writer. She also answered some questions the other boys and girls had.
Cathy then signed some books over in Easons in Dun Laoighre, which to our relief was only around the corner. In Easons the queue was long enough (which was to be expected). When we finally met Cathy I had unfortunately gotten very shy and anxious so I barely spoke to her but thankfully my sister asked all the questions and talked for me. Cathy really is as lovely as everyone says, She was amazed at how far myself and Shannon had traveled to see her and actually loves our hometown. We told her that we grew up reading her books and that we both share the books. She said she loved the idea of that and that she has also been thinking of including a character named Casey in one of her books. She liked us so much she actually got the woman taking photos to take one of all three of us to post on her Instagram!
I really loved the experience of my first book signing and am looking forward to going to many more! I can't wait to read her new book Fortune Cookie and do a review, no doubt it will be brilliant.
I'm really sorry for the low quality photos.
